Awakening the spontaneous desire to learn
About us
Escola Waldorf a Oliveira

The Oliveira Waldorf School is a primary school based on Waldorf pedagogy, whose vision is to awaken in children a genuine desire to learn, a spirit of inquiry and a willingness to engage in creative activity. We place special emphasis on the integral development of the individual, particularly their intellectual, artistic and social abilities, valuing rhythm and contact with nature.
With a licence granted by the Ministry of Education for grades 1 to 9, we offer the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of schooling. In addition to Portuguese, Mathematics and Environmental Studies, the curriculum also includes Painting, Form Drawing, Music, Handicrafts (using natural materials), English and German as foreign languages, Physical Education, Eurythmy, Choir and Theatre.
This project began in 2008 with a group of eight children, formed by a non-profit association and supported by the strength and presence of parents and teachers.
These have been and continue to be the driving force behind the school’s management and operation. We currently have a group of 136 children!
Waldorf pedagogy was conceived in Germany in 1919 by the Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner. It is recognised by UNESCO as an educational approach capable of responding to contemporary educational challenges, especially in areas of great cultural diversity.
Waldorf schools today form an independent, constantly growing network of more than 700 projects spread throughout the world. In Portugal, there are several initiatives specifically geared towards pre-school and primary education.
The Oliveira Waldorf School is a member of APEPW – Portuguese Association of Waldorf Schools.
